The Coventry AT7 Volleyball Club
started sometime in 1987,
shortly after the inauguration
of the new AT7 Sports & Leisure Centre.
First the club fielded a Men's
Team in the Birmingham and District League.
As the number of players
grew, a '1st Team' played in the new West Midlands Division 1,
when a '2nd Team' was playing
in the local Warwickshire League.
At some point in the history
of the club there even was a Mixed Team playing in one of the local
leagues.
Sadly this side of the club
has disappeared.
Around 1996, the club was
only able to enter one Men's Team into the local Warwickshire League.
When that league disappeared
to form most of the Division 2 of the West Midlands League, the club
followed and carried on entering and the League and the Cup
Competitions.
This was thanks to the
commitment of the players, mostly from the continent!
At the end of the 2003-04
season, Coventry AT7 finished 1st of the West Midlands Division 2 League
and was promoted to the
Division 1.
In 2004, Coventry AT7 won the
Final of the Plate Competition against Tamworth!
Since we regularly have so many players from
Coventry University in our squad,
we have decided to work closely with their Student
Union during the 2006/07 season
and actually resurrect volleyball at the
local university in the process.
As part of our commitment to promote the game of
Volleyball at Coventry University, we are now
coaching and training a Student Squad to represent the University
in the Midlands Conference of the 2007/08 BUSA League
